About Linwood Holton
Linwood Holton Elementary School was named after Virginia Governor A. Linwood Holton, Jr. (1970-1974, Republican). A Roanoke attorney, Governor Holton championed racial equality and increased the employment and appointment of blacks and women in state government. Governor Holton also provided the first state funds for community mental health centers, supported environmental efforts, and helped unify development of the state's ports. He later served as President of the Center for Innovative Technology.
At this time, Linwood Holton Elementary School has an enrollment of approximately 600 students. We serve a diverse population of students from the following Northside neighborhoods: Ginter Park, Bellevue, Sherwood Park, Edgehill and Carver. Many students are able to walk to school while others ride the school bus. Several care facilities provide transportation to and from school for students.
Classroom pods are grouped by grade level. Classrooms and restrooms are barrier-free and accessible to everyone.
